PowerCom Setup Guide

QUICK SETUP SUMMARY

  1. Install PowerCom PowerPoint add-in (close PowerPoint during installation)
  2. Install base station USB driver (recommend install from Hardware Update Wizard)
  3. Enable PowerCom license (depends on PowerCom license type):
    1. Run PowerCom dongle set up program (for dongle license only)or
    2. Activate PowerCom license by base station serial number or32 bit CD key
  4. Connect base station from PowerCom program and configure base station settings:
    1. Set channel number
    2. Set keypad range
    3. Configure base station settings
  5. Test keypad
    1. Make sure keypad channel number is the same as the base channelnumber
    2. (for Plus/Mini Plus & Ativa) Make sure the address mode(static or dynamic) is the same too
  6. Run slide show- create question slide and follow normal procedure to test voting

 

In-Depth Step-by-Step Walkthrough

  1. Install PowerCom PowerPoint add-in (close PowerPoint duringinstallation)
    1. Check PowerCom web site to ensure you have the latest PowerCom version
    2. Uninstall PowerCom older version
    3. Run PowerCom setup.exe to install PowerCom (close PowerPoint during installation)
    4. For Office 2007: PowerCom detects and shows message to confirm installing PowerCom for Office 2007
      (Note: you can install PowerCom Office 2003 version on Office 2007, however, the PowerCom Office 2003 version has less feature and is not recommended )
    5. Select the keypad model you have purchased (or are testing)
  2. Install Base Station USB Driver (recommend install fromHardware Update Wizard- note: this step can be done before or after installingPowerCom software)
    1. Plug in base station to the PowerCom computer. Windows will detect New Hardware and prompt you for USB driver installation. Follow the Windows New Hardware Wizard to install base station USB driver.
    2. If Internet is unavailable, you can install the hardware driver from the installation CD.
    3. For Reply Worldwide base stations CRS940 and CRS941, you will need to install the USB driver twice. The Hardware Wizard will prompt the second install after the first is complete. (CRS 970/971 driver needs to be installed only once).
  3. Note: Reply WorldWide base station CRS940/CRS941 are not native USB, sodrivers must be re-installed when changing USB ports. Please plug in basestation to the same USB port every time to prevent Windows from re-installingthe USB driver.

  6. Connect Base Station from PowerCom Program and ConfigureBase Station Settings

    2. Hardware group
    3. Start Base. (Start Base Station screen appears)
    4. Select the right Com port forthe base station and make base station connections.
    5. Connect the base station and test the keypads.

    2. Click “Start a Base Station”
    3. Click “Find Base Station" to connect base.
    4. Select the appropriate Com port for the base station and makebase station connection.
    5. Connect the base station and test the keypads.


    For each base station connection repeat the following steps (for multiple base stations only):

    1. Select a different base alpha (A, B,C, etc,) for each base station.
    2. Since PowerCom for Reply Worldwide supports 5 keypad models, you have to select the keypad model (Reply Worldwide for Worldwide and Mini) you are using.
    3. Reply Plus base station WRS970 supports 2 connection types: USB and Ethernet, you have to select the connection type (Com Type): USB (default) or TCP (for WRS970 using Ethernet only).
    4. Connect one base station by clicking “Find Base station” (Reply WorldWide base connection details, Reply Plus base connection details)
    5. Set Channel Number to match keypad channel number (select the channel and press enter).
    6. Set keypad range: use “–“ and “+“ to control keypad address range. 
    7. Configure base station and keypad settings (choose your hardware model here for detailed instructions: Reply Worldwide, Reply Plus

    • Reply WorldWide: Each base station/channel communicates with up to 250 keypads. Maximum 15 channels, total 3,750 keypads per system.
    • Reply Plus: Each base station/channel communicates with up to 500 keypads. Maximum 31 channels, total 15,500 keypads per system.

    1. Examine keypad range to ensure your keypads confirm with the keypad range.
    2. Ensure keypad channel number is the same as the base station channel number.
    3. For Plus and Mini Plus, ensure the address mode (dynamic or static) is the same for base station and keypads.
    4. Press numeric button of several keypads, PowerCom Test keypad screen should display Green background when it has received the vote. A Red background indicates the keypad address is out of range. A Yellow background means the keypad battery is low.
  10. Run Slide Show- Create a Question Slide and Follow NormalProcedure to Test Voting

    1. Open PowerCom sample.ppt file from All Programs\PowerCom\sample\Worldwide (or Plus)\sample.ppt.
    2. Run slide show by press F5 or go to first question slide and use Shift F5 to start slide show from the current slide.
    3. Examine PowerCom Confirmation screen to ensure that
      • PowerCom is properly activated
      • PowerCom is not in demo mode
      • Keypad range is correct
      • "Start a new session" is selected

    4. Locate the first question slide to start the voting testing.
    5. Watch the right bottom corner. Poller Box should be in Green color background (means the base station is connected and ready to receive vote.
    6. Press “A” to display Absent List.
    7. Vote on at least 6 keypads (for “Plus” only 4 keypad votes are needed). The Absent Keypad ID List will disappear after the Base Station transmits the vote to PowerCom.
    8. Use Spacebar to progress from stop voting to display voting result, and then go to next slide.
