How Works - Audience Response Systems

PowerCom software is a powerful add-in for a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.

Although some Audience Response Systems are standalone systems, PowerCom was created to enhance Microsoft's PowerPoint presentation software, by adding polling and data capture capabilities..

With PowerCom, within minutes PowerPoint users can create an engaging and interactive PowerPoint presentation and transform a drab presentation into a fun and memorable collaboration.

Microsoft's reputation for creating quality products and state-of-the-art techonology allows PowerCom to remain in the forefront of the ARS industry. Microsoft PowerPoint is a feature rich presentation software used widely around the world, which adapts well to an Audience Response System.

PowerCom software was developed to work with Reply Keypads - manufactured by Fleetwood Group's Electronics Division. Fleetwood is an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of data and audio communication products, especially products that require low power, low interference potential radio frequency (RF) operation. PowerCom software is easy to use. After you install your PowerCom software, a separate PowerCom pulldown menu and a set of PowerCom Toolbars are added to the PowerPoint menu bar.

With PowerCom, Microsoft PowerPoint users can create question slides (while in slide design mode) and their audience can use keypads to answer those questions. Then PowerCom will immediately capture and tabulate the results, inserting them into the running presentation (during slide show mode).

Follow 4 Simple Steps To CreateDynamic, Interactive and Engaging Presentations

Audience Response Keypad
  • Connect the keypads and test the system

We recommend that users design and create their polling slides in demo mode.

When using the demo mode, users can run a PowerCom slide show without connecting to a physical base station and keypads. When in demo mode you can conduct pre-meeting rehearsals and see a preview of your presentation and the polling graph setup.

To use the demo mode from the PowerCom menu select - system. Within the General tab you can choose to operate in demo mode. Once your demo presentation is completed, you must connect the keypads and test the system before going live. To do this you click the “Start a base station” menu under PowerCom menu to connect and test your keypads.

  • Design your questions using PowerPoint slide design mode.

When using PowerCom you would create a question slide exactly the same way as you'd insert all other slides into your PowerPoint presentation. PowerCom will automatically capture the number of choices for your answer if you set up the question using title text, and a text for answer choices. Then select the Insert Poller menu of the PowerCom toolbar. This will launch the 4 step polling wizard.

The polling wizard will ask you a series of questions relating to your poll. You set up the the number of available answers, tell the system whether or not to collect demographic information, and if any points are going to be awarded to those that answer correctly.

Next step is to customize your graph. You have the ability to select the type of graph, bar colors, and the background. You can also play music while polling, or set a countdown timer to show your audience how much time they have to answer.

And once you have finished the polling wizard set up, your customized graph will be inserted onto your slide, where it can be sized and positioned like any other PowerPoint graphic.

Interactive Response Systems
  • Run slide PowerPoint show with Interactive Audience Polling Slides

When you're ready to run your slide show, simply connect your base station to your computer and test your keypads to make sure everything is ready for your presentation. Going live is simple and can be set up in minutes. Within the PowerCom pulldown menu just click the “Start a base station” to connect and test your keypads.

During your PowerPoint presentation, when your question slides appears, your audience members can key in their answers using their remote control keypads. They are generally given a set amount of time to answer each question, and once the time has expired the tabulated results will appear on screen.

With PowerCom, during a slide show presenters will see a small poller box on the lower right of their screen. This poller box gives users the ability to:

  • Add impromptu slides on the fly
  • Stop, pause or reset the timer
  • See the number of keypads are absent or did not log in a response
  • View the fastest fingers and team winners
  • View the tabulated results in graph format
  • Views the demographics results

By right clicking on the box for available options, or depressing the corresponding shortcut key you can initiate the desired action.

This gives users a great deal of flexibility. They can run the poll again, assign points to those that answer correctly, and identify and reward the person who answered the question first. All the points and polling results can be immediately displayed on your presentation screen.

  • Capture and Display Polling Result

Powercom incorporates a powerful data analysis reporting known as On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP). OLAP reports can be run during or after your slide show. The typical applications of OLAP are in business reporting for sales, marketing, management reporting, business performance management (BPM), budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and similar areas.

The system has the ability to produce summaries and/or detailed reports in a Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word or HTML format
